Calgary, AB – September 16, 2025 – Microserve is proud to announce the creation of the Microserve Computer Science Award, a new student award at the University of Calgary, designed to support students who are first-generation in their family to pursue post-secondary education. Valued at $3,000 per year, this award will be granted annually to an undergraduate student majoring in Computer Science, beginning in the 2025–2026 academic year.

This initiative represents Microserve’s continuing commitment to investing in the future of Canada’s tech talent, particularly students who face systemic barriers to accessing higher education.

“Microserve is deeply invested in our communities,” said Trevor Stack, Director of the Alberta Region. “By supporting emerging computer science majors, we’re not only recognizing talent and supporting career development, but strengthening the foundation for our customers, partners and other community stakeholders.”

About the Award

The Microserve Computer Science Award is a five-year commitment totaling $15,000. One deserving student each year will receive $3,000 based on the following criteria:

  • Enrolled as a continuing undergraduate student in the Faculty of Science, majoring in Computer Science
  • Demonstrated financial need
  • Strong record of academic merit
  • A post-secondary student in Canada who is the first in their family to receive post-secondary education, with preference given to students from underrepresented communities, including women, Indigenous students, visible minorities, and others who have faced adversity in their journey to higher education

Students can apply through the University of Calgary’s Student Financial Support online award application portal. Final selection and administration of the award are subject to University approval and governed by a formal Gift Agreement between Microserve and the University.

Long-Term Vision

This five-year scholarship commitment is intended to make a meaningful and measurable impact on the lives of students who are building the future of technology. The terms of the award will be reviewed and open for revision in 2030 to ensure the initiative continues to meet the evolving needs of students and the community.

In addition to publication of the award on the University of Calgary’s official website, Microserve will receive an annual donor notification letter with updates on the student recipient’s academic journey and accomplishments.

“We’re not just investing in students, we’re investing in the innovators, problem-solvers, and changemakers of tomorrow,” added Heather Schaan, COO and President at Microserve.
