Microserve is proud to announce that we have joined the Kidney Foundation’s Living Donor Circle of Excellence. This program recognizes companies that pledge to provide salary support for any employee who chooses to be a living organ donor and needs to take extra time off work as a result.
Today, more than 100,000 patients are waiting for a life-saving kidney or liver transplant. Of the transplants performed in 2021, living donors accounted for 24% of kidney transplants and 6% of liver transplants. Financial disincentives are a barrier for many potential living organ donors who can’t afford to take the required time away from work unpaid. Living organ donation typically includes a four- to six-week recovery period and many donors need to rely on their vacation time and unpaid absences during this period to donate. By introducing the Kidney and Liver Living Donor Policy, Microserve is committed to ensuring all employees who choose to make the brave and personal decision to donate are supported on their leave and return to work worry-free.
Charisma Reilly, Vice President of Human Resources at Microserve, expressed the importance of being a part of the Living Donor Circle of Excellence, saying ” Supporting the creation of our Living Donor Policy for Microserve has truly been an honor and I am so excited that it has been published for our employees! I feel this is one small step we as a business can take to support our employees who choose to give the gift of life, and the less fortunate in our communities. Employee well-being, community, and compassion are fundamental to our culture here at Microserve. We would be honored and humbled to support any employee performing such a selfless service for another person. “
John Gill, MD, Founder of the Living Donor Circle of Excellence said, “Living donors are heroes amongst us, their gift is life-saving for patients in need of a kidney or liver transplant and has a huge positive impact on society. Patients facing life-threatening diseases are able to live normal lives, raise their families, and participate in their communities. By supporting living organ donors, we are also building stronger communities.”
The Microserve team encourages other organizations to join us as part of the Living Donor Circle of Excellence, so together we can help more people who are in need of life-saving organ transplants. You can learn more about AST’s Living Donor Circle of Excellence here.
